CHANGELINGS - NO POSTAL CHARGES ANYWHERE

We have decided to create a series devoted solely to translated novels and short stories, leaving Vagabonds to be a series for fiction and poetry originally written in English. All suggested names for this series (Mutations, Transformations, Metamorphoses and even simply Translations) seemed very dull. Then "Changelings" came up, and it immediately fitted the bill: a changeling is not in fact the original child or creation; it has the same appearance, but speaks a different language. And the act of substitution involves a certain magic, a degree of pushing and shoving. Afterwards every pretends that they reading and discussing the words of the original writer, and indeed this new incarnation of them in another language should resemble them as closely as is possible in meaning, tone and style, but as languges do things differently, translation can never be more than a very good approximation.

Of course, this takes nothing away from the importance of translation, as a necessary means of cross-pollination betwen cultures, something we Anglophones are particularly in need of.

The Changelings will come in a distinctive new cover (white on the front, black on the back, and the same red spine). The debut novel will be Alessandro Barbero's The Anonymous Novel. Sensing the Future Torments and it will be published on 1 March 2010. You will be able to buy at lowest possible price on this website (20% below the cover price), and we will dispatch by first-class post  or air mail immediately. Modern distribution and marketing methods drive up prices, but if you buy directly from us, we will pass on those savings to you.

This will be followed by Ermanno Cavazzoni's equally innovative novel, The Nocturnal Library, which will be published in April. Further details will be added very shortly.
