The idea of creating this series belonged to the poet Gerry Loose and he contributed two excellent collections of his own, and put together the extraordinary translations of Jidi Majia’s profound and distinctive poems from Chinese to English and thence to three “dialects” of Scots: Lowland Scots, Doric and Shetlandic. Sadly Gerry has left us and I like to think of this series as one of the many legacies he left to Scottish literary culture.
